Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures, packages, tests, and sells integrated circuits and other semiconductor devices in Taiwan, China, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, the United States, and internationally. It provides various wafer fabrication processes, such as processes to manufacture complementary metal- oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) logic, mixed-signal, radio frequency, embedded memory, bipolar CMOS mixed-signal, and others.

The semiconductor industry

Semiconductors are the physical foundation of the AI build-out — the chips that train and run every model. It is a cyclical, capital-intensive industry split between fabless designers, who design chips and outsource production; foundries, who manufacture them; and integrated device makers. AI has become the dominant demand driver, concentrating spending on data-center accelerators, custom silicon, high-bandwidth memory and the networking that stitches them together. The sector is also unusually exposed to export controls, manufacturing concentration in Taiwan, and sharp boom-bust capex cycles. TSMC is the world's largest foundry and manufactures the leading-edge chips most AI hardware depends on — the single most critical, and most concentrated, link in the AI supply chain.
